We are inspired by the courage and leadership of young people who are stepping up to create change in their communities. Recently, two outstanding eighth grade students from Plymouth Community Intermediate School (PCIS), Emma Dries and Sam Souriolle, did just that.
On March 12, 2026, Emma and Sam presented The Yellow Tulip Project at the 9th Annual Be In the Know Conference at Bridgewater State University. This conference brings together leaders, educators, and advocates focused on substance use prevention and mental health—an important space for meaningful conversation and awareness.
What makes this moment even more powerful is that Emma and Sam were the only middle school students to present, and one of just three student groups selected to share their work that day. Standing in front of an audience of 250 people, they spoke with confidence, passion, and purpose. Representing not only their school, but the growing movement of youth working to smash the stigma surrounding mental health.
In an exciting and well-deserved surprise, the PCIS Yellow Tulip Project chapter was honored with official citations from both the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives, recognizing their incredible efforts and impact within the Plymouth community.
This recognition is a testament to the dedication of these students and the supportive community around them. Emma and Sam’s leadership reminds us that age is never a barrier to making a difference, and that when young people are given the platform to share their voices, powerful change can happen.
We are so proud of Emma, Sam, and the entire PCIS YTP chapter for continuing to lead with empathy, courage, and hope.
