Statement on Commitment to Equity and Inclusion
At YTP, we know that every person deserves care, community, and hope. Our vision for an equitable organization is one where all youth Ambassadors, community members, educators, volunteers, participants, and staff—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability status, class, or any other dimensions of identity—feel valued, respected, and empowered.
Our Commitment:
We see our mission to smash the stigma around mental health as inextricably linked to addressing systemic inequities. We recognize that mental health affects everyone in unique ways, and that racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, ageism, classism, sexism, and religious discrimination create unique barriers to support and healing—especially for BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and individuals who experience disability.
We commit to:
- Connecting the values and principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion directly to our mission of mental health advocacy and support.
- Actively reflecting on our language, programs, partnerships, and leadership structures.
- Uplifting and centering the voices of those most impacted by systemic injustices.
- Building partnerships that enhance our ability to serve diverse communities.
- Cultivating inclusive spaces where all involved with YTP feel seen, heard, and empowered to participate authentically.
- Regularly assess our progress and hold ourselves accountable by identifying and correcting inequities within our policies and programs.
- Practicing transparent communication.
Non-Discrimination
YTP actively recruits, engages, and serves members from every background without discrimination in our membership requirements, service provision, or organizational policies. We expect staff to embrace and express these commitments in their interactions and practice.
