Making an Impact at Burr & Burton Academy

We’re continually inspired by the way Burr & Burton Academy students are bringing hope to life in their community. Through a mix of creativity, connection, and leadership, they are making mental health visible, supported, and talked about every day.

From hosting school-wide events like Wellness Day and a 5K Color Run, to organizing kindness note campaigns, peer-led conversations, and campus-wide awareness efforts, their impact is both meaningful and far-reaching. They’ve also found thoughtful ways to fundraise and give back: through initiatives like tulip bulb sales, student-designed merchandise, and community events.

What stands out most is their commitment to creating spaces where everyone feels seen, supported, and included—whether it’s through a simple note of encouragement or a larger community event.

Here’s a look at how they’re making a difference:

Awareness & Advocacy

  • Mental Health Awareness Day (10/10) – Wear green and participate in community activities
  • “I Am More” Exhibit (planned based on participation)
  • Student-led conversations in Wellness Classes, where students share personal mental health journeys with 9th graders
  • Ongoing Instagram engagement to spread awareness and connection

Kindness & Community Connection

  • Kindness Notes shared around campus, tucked into library books, and sent to a local nursing home
  • Encouragement notes and candy left on desks during testing days (Oct 8, 15, 16 & March 24, April 7, 8)
  • Cocoa & Lemonade in the Courtyard to create moments of connection
  • Tulip Garden planting (10/10) to create a visible, lasting symbol of hope

Events & School Engagement

  • Spring Fest participation with interactive activities, games, and YTP swag
  • Wellness Day featuring off-campus workshops like yoga, guided meditation, nature walks, arts & crafts, and group conversations
  • Faculty vs. Student Basketball Game (with a hype video!)
  • Hockey doubleheader with bake sale and 50/50 raffle
  • Concessions at a basketball game

Fundraising & Creative Initiatives
