LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) — The Lawrence County Health Department in Ironton is now recognizing “Mental Health Awareness” Week.

They’re doing so y highlighting the “Yellow Tulip Project,” which is a youth-driven initiative hoping to end the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Yellow tulips have been planted in parts of Ironton as a reminder of it.

The project was started by a student in high school who lost two close friends to suicide while struggling with her own battle with depression.

The student and her mother then launched the “Yellow Tulip Project” as a way to raise awareness and inspired by what her friends loved most: the color yellow, and tulips.

The Lawrence County Health Department is also reminding folks there are plenty of resources in our region to help you with mental health.

You can also call or text the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by dialing 988.
