As a high school student, things can get tough- especially with school, socializing, and everything in between. One thing that keeps me and other people in line is music- it cultivates a sense of tranquility and peace when there are stressful times, and overall opens a whole new state of mind that seems magical for most. I wanted to express how much music impacts my and others’ mental health in a positive way by making this piece- I focused on making it very colorful/dream-like in a way, with the whales representing whale song, a myth. I also merged two settings- a normal one in a subway train, where I like to listen to music the most, and a fantasy-like sunset/ocean setting with different colors that explore how music brings me out of darker times.
