Artist Statement: After watching videos and reading articles about the impact pets had on humans with mental health problems, I was inspired to create a piece that explored how the positive impact animals had on humans could restore hope and relief for peoples’ lives. I took inspiration from the movie Superman and depicted the dog in the piece as a superhero, “saving” the human while hugging the latter, representing the peace and joy animals could bring to people. Additionally, the human has bandages on their head, representing how the dog aids mental and emotional health by great measures. I used colored pencil to create this piece.
