My day job as a graphic designer and illustrator used to be mostly done in isolation, which can take its toll mentally after a while. Everything becomes about deadlines and stress, with less and less time for interaction. Once I started pursuing photography, all of that changed. Suddenly a big part of the creative process was working WITH people, instead of just FOR them. Not only that, but choosing to photograph drag queens and nightlife performers made me feel more part of the queer community than I ever had before because it felt like I finally had something to give back. Photography has opened so many doors, and made such a difference mentally.
EXPRESS is a new section of our blog devoted to YTP’s creative community.
